It has been reported that at a national cybersecurity conference, the Asst. ICTO of the Emerging Technology Division of the GovTech agency, Sherab Gocha, presented on the generative AI guidelines for civil servants. It is reported that Bhutan and Canada have initiated a collaborative effort to enhance Bhutan's AI policy and governance. This partnership, under the 'Bridging Borders through AI' initiative led by Canada, involves a workshop in Thimphu aimed at educating policymakers and officials on AI's role in public service, ethics, and cybersecurity. Canadian Deputy Ambassador Mark Allen highlighted the mutual learning opportunity, noting Bhutan's unique perspective on mindfulness and Gross National Happiness as valuable contributions to global AI discourse. Insights from this consultation will be compiled into a white paper for GovTech by mid-March 2026, serving as a reference for AI governance in Bhutan.
